Murchison Falls National Park is one of Uganda's oldest conservation areas; it has received many notable foreign visitors like Winston Churchill in 1907, King Edward VII in 1930, Humphrey Bogart in 1951 and the Queen Mother in 1959. The Victoria Nile races down the 80 km of white water rapids before plunging 40m over the remnant rift valley wall , the center piece of the Park.
This stretch of the river provides one of Uganda’s most memorable wildlife spectacles. Regular visitors include elephant, giraffe and buffalo while hippopotamus and Nile crocodile are permanent residents.
Murchison Falls National Park is dominated by savanna woodland, river/wetland and tropical forests inhabitants which provide homes for 76 mammal species and 450 bird species. Large mammals include lion, leopard, Rothschild giraffe, Cape buffalo, hartebeest, oribi, warthog and Uganda kob.
